Urban Legend Debunked

Photograph taken by myself on 16 Oct 2005 at the RAC Centenary Rally, Cottesloe, Western Australia, using Sony DSC V-1 camera. Detail cropped from original digital frame number Dsc00879, size 2,225kBImage from WikipediaThere is a story going around at the moment about a New Yorker, who has purchased a property in Portugal. After his purchase he finds the Barn full of vintage cars. Well, it's absolute Bollocks. The truth behind the story can be found HERE.

Someone even went to the trouble to create a Powerpoint presentation, I don't know why. It turns out that the barn belonged to a salesman who dealt in vintage cars.

Professional Vs Amateur

Lifehacker.Image from WikipediaAren't RSS aggregators brilliant! I'm using google's reader at the moment. I manage to get all my blogs brought to me without having to trail through my bookmarks. Only one problem, I also get a load of stuff that I don't want. For instance, by noon today I have thirteen posts from LifeHacker and eighteen from Tech Crunch. This is including all the news and other stuff that I have subscriptions with. I don't have the time to read most of the stuff they send out.
I am reading Andrew Keen's The Cult of the Amateur. It's about how amateur bloggers, You Tubers, podcasters, etc. are ruining our culture and economy. He has a few digs at Chris Anderson 's The Long Tail. Which is about niche markets and individualism. Don't get me wrong I am a big fan of LifeHacker, but, we amateurs also have full time jobs, family commitments and so on, so we can't be flooding the internet with as much rubbish as the professional bloggers. Can we?

Ubuntu or Vista? cont...

Ubuntu-6-WallPaperImage by klkodak via FlickrI have managed to get the internet working with Ubuntu, so I will install it next week when I get the courage to do it. Still can't get any sound though. I don't need sound to run productivity applications, although Ubuntu is supposed to be good with video and audio it would be nice to run all applications on Ubuntu. You know, sod it, I'm sticking to Windows, at least everything works.

More Time for Politics

Portrait Picture of Tony BennImage from WikipediaI am currently reading the latest instalment of Tony Benn's diaries 2001 - 2007, 'More Time for Politics'. Which is a cracking read. I have always held Tony Benn in high regard. But lately I have been wondering why he stayed a member of the Labour Party after they became "New" Labour. He was always, and still is Old Labour. Perhaps he felt he was servicing his constituants well and wished to carry on serving. Of course as a socialist myself, I can not possibly vote Labour, at least not for the foreseeable future. In the next election I will have to hope for a switched on Independent or I may be forced to vote Liberal. Perish the thought!
Bye the bye. This Zemanta is clever, it really is.

Ubuntu, Vista or Both?

Source: WikipediaWhich is the best operating system Ubuntu or Vista? I have run ubuntu from the live CD, thanks to a great post on crunch gear. However it does not seem to recognise my sound card or my wireless connection. I was thinking of running my PC in a dual boot system, using Vista for internet operations and using the linux for productivity tasks. However, this will not really work as I need the internet for research while I write. The saga continues.
This post also serves as a test for Zemanta which on first perusal I think looks pretty groovy.
